FORT BENNINGFORT BENNING, Ga. -- An unknown number of Army drill sergeants at this sprawling training base have been suspended in the wake of allegations by female trainees that they were sexually assaulted here.

The Command is being "tight-lipped" as to details, but we are told that the CID estimates numerous victims were abused by their D.I.s in what one source said "could be the worst incident of this kind in nearly two years."   We recall covering a similar situation at Fort Leonard Wood back in 2015.  At that time, a drill sergeant was convicted of forcing sex on numerous females there.

In a statement issued by the public affairs office, the Command said: "We take these allegations very seriously and will ensure a thorough investigation of the facts.  We are mindful of the welfare and safety of all our soldiers. The drill sergeants that have been suspended will have no contact with trainees during the course of this investigation."

ABUSES COULD BE WIDESPREAD

The probe was expanded, a source said, when CID received additional allegations of sexual abuse involving several of the D.I.s assigned to this huge Army installation. While actual numbers of people involved have not been released, it is safe to say the illegal practices have been going on here for some time now.

Statements are being collected by the CID from the females alleging abuse, and several of the drill instructors have been repeatedly interrogated as to their possible wrongdoing.  Charges against individual trainers could come before the end of next week.  "Political pressure to hammer offenders is intense," a major told one of our confidential informants, after being assured that his identity would be kept confidential.

MilitaryCorruption.com wonders why the Army doesn't go back to single-sex training platoons, which we feel would cut down on the sort of problems that have cropped up since politicians began imposing social experiments at U.S. military training centers.  While that wouldn't put a complete stop to sexual assault of female boots, it would be a big step in the right direction.
