MILITARY BOOKSHELF - 11

By MAJ Glenn MacDonald
U.S. Army Reserve (Ret.)

We get a lot of feedback from our large and growing audience - up to six million hits a month, worldwide - and many of you have been clamoring for more reviews of Kennedy assassination conspiracy books.

As you know, we are not "politically correct" here, and totally believe in and will defend the First Amendment to our U.S. Constitution, so have no fear of censorship or silence. The mainstream "elite" media, so heavily-invested in the specious "official story" that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, the "magic bullet theory" etc., will not tell you of the small publishers and even privately-printed truth out there, but we will.

Even books that are clearly government disinformation, like Vincent Bugliosi's heavy "door-stop," get reviewed here, and shown for exactly what is is - a lengthy and contrived pack of lies. Yelling "bullshit" fifty times in a row is just as true or false as if it were uttered but once.

In this edition of BOOKSHELF, we finish wending through the tall pile of Kennedy assassination books that flooded our desk once we started doing reviews on the American coup d'état of November 22, 1963.

"OSWALD, MEXICO, AND DEEP POLITICS:
REVELATIONS FROM CIA RECORDS
ON THE ASSASSINATION OF JFK"
By Peter Dale Scott
(www.skyhorsepublishing.com)

Peter Dale Scott has written extensively on the Kennedy assassination and other dark corners of the American political scene. His encyclopedic knowledge enables him to connect the dots among the players, the organizations, and the unacknowledged collusions - the deep politics - of our often troubled political system.

In this book, Scott, a former Canadian diplomat and professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley, delivers the most detailed treatment yet of the mysterious sojourn of Lee Harvey Oswald (or someone using his name) to Mexico City in the fall of 1963. Was this trip a key aspect of the framing of Oswald, was it an approved intelligence operation, or was it perhaps both?

Scott's analysis suggests the evidence from Mexico City was part of a frame-up making OSWALD, MEXICO, AND DEEP POLITICS an essential piece of research and analysis, shedding new light on Communist conspiracy allegations in the JFK assassination.

We rate this book three stars.

"HEAR NO EVIL: POLITICS, SCIENCE
AND FORENSIC EVIDENCE IN THE
KENNEDY ASSASSINATION"

By Donald Byron Thomas
(www.skyhorsepublishing.com)

This is groundbreaking scientific analysis that blows the JFK assassination case wide open.

Did a shot from the "grassy knoll" kill President Kennedy? If so, was Oswald part of a conspiracy or an innocent patsy? Why have scientific experts who examined the evidence failed to put such questions to rest?

In 2001, scientist Dr. Donald Byron Thomas published a peer-reviewed article that revived the debate over the finding by the House Select Committee on Assassinations that there indeed had been a shot from the grassy knoll, caught on the police dictabelt recording.

In HEAR NO EVIL, Thomas explains the acoustics evidence in detail, placing it in context of an analysis of all the scientific evidence in the Kennedy assassination. Revering no sacred cows, he demolishes myths promulgated by the Warren Commission and it's mainstream media allies, and presents a novel and compelling reinterpretation of the deservedly discredited "single bullet theory."

More than a scientific tome, HEAR NO EVIL is a searing indictment of the government's handpicked experts who failed the public trust to be fair and impartial arbiters of the evidence.

A "must have" for any serious Kennedy assassination researcher, this vital book is brought to you by our friends at Skyhorse Publishing and rates four stars.

"SELF-PORTRAIT OF A SCOUNDREL"
By Chauncey Holt
(TrineDay.com)

This riveting work is the memoir of CIA contract agent and underworld figure Chauncey Marvin Holt as he operated in the twilight world of bootlegging, gambling, gun-running, money laundering, espionage and assassinations, using secret identities, while serving many masters. Holt's amazing story chronicles his participation in top secret "black operations" conducted during the Cold War, and reveals his clandestine role in the events surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Early in his criminal career, Holt connected with Meyer Lansky, chairman of the board of organized crime, and Peter Licavoli, a ruling "Don" of Detroit's Mafia family. His versatility earned him Lansky's praise as a renaissance man of crime In 1953, Holt was loaned to the Mob to a "proprietary interest" of the newly-founded Central Intelligence Agency. At the same time, he continued his close association with top-echelon members of organized crime.

Holt's skills as a pilot, munitions expert and accounting whiz made him invaluable to both the mob and the CIA. For nearly 25 years, the CIA utilized his talents in some of their most important "black ops" in Guatemala, the Dominican republic, Cuba, Brazil, Laos and Chile. During his tenure running front companies for The Agency, Holt worked closely with legendary CIA "spooks" and fellow "cowboys" (independent contact agents who carried out field operations away from CIA headquarters).

The author provides a chilling account of why the Secret Government's preparations for the coup d'état of November 22, 1963 were well underway by April 1963. He explains why he and a team of CIA operatives were in Dealey Plaza, and the truth behind the mysterious "three tramps" picked up behind the Grassy Knoll after the assassination. Holt also describes his firsthand knowledge of the special relationship between Oswald and the intelligence community in the months preceding the assassination of JFK.

SELF-PORTRAIT OF A SCOUNDREL presents persuasive evidence of the existence of a powerful, interlocked cabal that orchestrated the removal of a president with frightening resolve. Most importantly, the book reveals the footprints of a renegade covert network - a Secret Government - that has exerted untold influence over U.S. policy from World War Ii until today.

This one is a no-brainer. Give it four stars.

"A ROSE BY MANY OTHER NAMES: ROSE
CHERAMI AND THE JFK ASSASSINATION"

By Todd C. Elliott
(TrineDay.com)

At just 82 pages in length, this is undoubtedly the briefest entry into the plethora of Kennedy assassination literature. But it is very important, and a must-read. That is why we include it in our collection this edition of MILITARY BOOKSHELF.

A known prostitute and drug carrier, Rose Cherami was picked up by authorities in Eunice, La. some 18 hours BEFORE the assassination of John F. Kennedy. She claimed to have been in the company of men who were on their way to kill the President in Dallas that Friday, Nov.. 22, 1963.

Born Melba Christine Marcades, she is a key piece of the puzzle that is the Louisiana connection to the JFK assassination - but has survived only as an enigmatic shadow for 50 years.

Immortalized by Oliver Stone in the opening scenes of Oliver Stone's history-shaking film, JFK, Cherami here becomes the main focus for the first time. A ROSE BY MANY OTHER NAMES reveals how she became, just minutes after the assassination, the center of the first, non-publicized investigation into President Kennedy's murder.

Her absorbing tale shifts away from Dallas's Dealey Plaza to Louisiana and peers into local police and FBI files. It reveals a life in the netherworld of crime and intrigue that ties her to mob figures Carlos Marcello, the godfather of the Louisiana/Texas mafia, and Jack Ruby, the Dallas nightclub owner and assassin of Lee Harvey Oswald.

But was she more than just a tragic underworld castaway?

Rose is considered by many to be a "JFK statistic" due to the fact that she is one of the many witnesses and individuals surrounding the assassination investigation to meet with an untimely demise. The story of her life and death is a specter haunting America's history.

With new interviews, new photographs and new documented testimony, investigative journalist Todd Elliot, transports readers back to another time in America, leading us on a guided tour through the Louisiana back-country. Elliott helps us make sense of the convoluted paper trail of one of the most intriguing figures swept up in the JFK assassination conspiracy. A ROSE BY MANY OTHER NAMES unravels much of the mystery, dispels some of the legend, and provides valuable new information about the woman known as Rose Cherami.

Give this Trine Day exclusive five stars.

"CIA ROGUES AND THE KILLING
OF THE KENNEDYS"

By Patrick Nolan
(www.skyhorsepublishing.com)

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency is no stranger to conspiracy and allegations of corruption. Across the globe, violent coups have been orchestrated, high-profile targets kidnapped, and world leaders dispatched at the hands of CIA agents.

During the 1960's, on domestic soil, the methods used to protect their interests and themselves at the expense of the American people were no less ruthless.

In CIA ROGUES AND THE KILLINGS OF THE KENNEDYS, Patrick Nolan fearlessly investigates the CIA's involvement in the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy - why the brothers needed to die, and how rogue intelligence agents orchestrated history's most infamous conspiracy.

Bolstered by a forward by Dr. Henry C. Lee, one of the world's foremost forensic authorities, this volume is an unmatched effort in forensic research and detective work. Nolan has made a significant contribution to the literature of that fateful day in Dallas in 1963 and sheds light on that dark night at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968. Readers interested in conspiracy, the Kennedy family, or American history will find this book invaluable.

For all the reasons above, we rate this book three Stars.

"THE KENNEDY DETAIL: JFK'S SECRET
SERVICE AGENTS BREAK THEIR SILENCE"

By Gerald Blaine with Lisa McCubbin
(Gallery Books, New York)

The Secret Service is an elite team of men who share a single mission - to protect the president of the United States.

On November 22, 1963, these men failed, and a country would never be the same. Now, for the first time, a member of JFK's Secret Service detail reveals the inside story of the assassination, the week and days that led to it and its heartrending aftermath. This compelling book, while careful not to stray far from the "official" version of how Kennedy died, is still well worth a read.

Drawing on the memories of fellow agents, Jerry Blaine captures the energetic, crowd-loving young president, who banned agents from his car and often plunged into raucous crowds with little warning. He describes the careful planning that went into JFK's Texas swing, the worries and concerns that agents, working long hours with little food or rest, had during the trip. And he describes the intensely private first lady making her first-ever political appearance with her husband, just months after losing a newborn baby.

Here are vivid scenes that could come only from inside the Kennedy detail: JFK's last words to his tearful son when he left Washington for the last time; how a sudden change of weather led to the choice of the open-air convertible limousine that day; Mrs. Kennedy standing blood-soaked outside a Dallas hospital room; the exhausted team of agents - perhaps hung-over from heavy drinking the night before?- reacting to the president's shooting; and a shift to LBJ and other key government figures in a moment of time.

A fair overall rating of this book gives it two stars.

"SURVIVOR'S GUILT - THE SECRET SERVICE
AND THE FAILURE TO PROTECT
PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY"

By Vincent M. Palamara
(TrineDay.com)

For some Secret Service agents in Dallas on November 22, 1963 the thought that they might have done something different and saved the life of JFK would haunt then for the rest of their lives. They were victim's of "Survivor's Guilt." . But there were other agents and the hierarchy they served who, through sins of omission, bore real guilt for the President's murder.

Vince Palamara, a recognized authority on the history of the Secret Service, recounts in methodical detail, how certain standard protective measures were not implemented on that tragic day, leaving John Kennedy a virtual 'sitting duck' as he rode into Dealey Plaza, and explodes the long-standing myth (swallowed without question by the Warren Commission) that Kennedy was difficult to protect, ordering agents not to ride the back of the limousine, making him somehow complicit in his own murder.

Painstakingly researched and based on first-hand accounts from more than 70 former agents, White House aides, and family members, SURVIVOR'S GUILT is the definitive account of what went wrong with President Kennedy's security detail on November 22, 1963.

The book also gives a comprehensive account of the various threats to Kennedy's life, leading up to his fatal journey to Texas, and the puzzling report by advance agents that they found no evidence of suspicious behavior in Dallas prior to JFK's arrival. The surprising conspiratorial beliefs of several former agents are also chronicled.

No doubt at all, SURVIVOR'S GUILT deserves four stars.
