It was an ignominious end to what had been a charmed career. For 27 years, Col. Samuel Lofton III moved from one promotion and good assignment to the next. Now that Air Force career lies in ruins and the colonel is on his way to prison for at least nine years.
However, the 49 year-old full bird colonel at least avoided conviction on a specious "rape" charge, which would have placed a target square on his back and made his future at Leavenworth DB a constant struggle for survival, looking over his shoulder every moment to see where the "shank" would come from.
Now, he's just a former Air Force officer in good standing who's been convicted of a myriad of larceny and financial crimes that will cost him his pension, his position and pay ($9,000 a month), and $14,000 in fines.

Col. Samuel Lofton is guilty - but not of rape. At least that has to be the conclusion of any thinking person after the officer's defense attorneys succeeded in poking numerous holes in his accuser's account of so-called "rapes" at Sheppard AFB in Texas.
The African-American bird colonel should be kicked out of the Air Force. He's admitted numerous crimes of larceny and violation of trust. His financial wrongdoing netted him some $12,000 in government funds. But the real question here is, did this man sexually assault and "rape" at least two women on the base?
He didn't have to. The sex was consensual. The colonel who went AWOL six times and self-destructed his military career was arrogant and stupid, but he's not the "Mandingo" rapist the prosecution would like you to believe.

There is no secret we think the odious, arrogant and obnoxious Gen. Gary North should have been fired a long time ago. There was the incident where he overruled his own investigating officer in Afghanistan and cruelly destroyed the careers of two Air Force light colonels who had a "run-in" with a punk from Blackwater.

For the amount of money and "goodies" she received for committing contract fraud in Iraq, one would think now-retired LTC Levonda Selph was hard up for cash. But we don't see how that could be, since field-grade officers of her rank haul down upwards of $100,000 a year.
Her criminal acts sure came cheap. All she got was a $4000 cash bribe and an all expense-paid trip to Thailand, valued at approximately five grand. The answer must be, she did it because the officer thought she could get away with it. The colonel guessed wrong.

A U.S. Army officer is under arrest in the suspected slaying of his young wife, military authorities in Korea say. CPT Christopher Gray of the 25th Transportation Bn. at Camp Henry was taken into custody less than two days after the victim's body was found dumped in a wooded area near Waegwan, some 40 miles north of Daegu.
Investigators say 27 year-old Lea Gray was reported missing from her apartment on April 20th. The woman's body was discovered some 17 days later. Her husband told the CID he had had an argument with his wife and that she had been "missing" ever since.
No motive has yet been established for the alleged slaying. Gray had recently transferred to Korea after a tour of duty in Iraq. He is being held in pre-trial confinement at the Camp Humphries jail.

The prosecution produced not one "witness" to the alleged "adultery." Their claim that LCDR Syneeda Penland and LTJG Mark Wiggin had an affair were predicated entirely on several photographs of two people having sex - no faces could be seen - and specious e-mails, which could have been created by anyone having "access" to Wiggin's account.
Let's see. His ex-wife was the one who gave the pix to the prosecutors, so is it possible she might have dummied up some "incriminating" messages to be used to "prove" Penland did "the wild thing" with her former hubby? Stranger things have happened.
So sure she was of her innocence in the case, Penland took the risk of refusing to "go to mast" and accepting NJP (non-judicial punishment). Now she stands convicted of adultery, conduct unbecoming an officer, making a false official statement and failure to obey a lawful order.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, a full colonel in the Air Force will face court-martial on rape and other charges. If Samuel Lofton III is found guilty, he could get life imprisonment at the Leavenworth DB.
The former commander of the 82nd Training Group at Sheppard AFB in Texas feels he has been "set up" and questions the credibility of several of his accusers. One woman, who told the OSI she "threw" her torn-panty hose "in the colonel's face" after an alleged sexual encounter, admitted at the officer's Article 32 hearing she'd later written her "attacker" that she had "the deepest respect" for him.
At that time, Lofton was only being probed for financial mismanagement. The note included the phrase she was "praying" that the colonel would "weather the storm." Of course that was before investigators and others got to, we mean "interviewed," her and another female, who now yell rape.

Police in Tarpon Springs, Fla. say a woman known as the "D.C. Madam" has committed suicide at her mother's home. The body of Deborah Jeanne Palfrey was found Thursday morning (May 1) in a shed near the house.
Allegedly a "suicide note" was found next to the body, but cops refused to disclose it contents.
Palfrey was convicted April 15 by a federal grand jury of masterminding a prostitution ring that catered to powerful men - both in the military and the highest levels of politics - as well as money laundering, using the mails for illegal purposes and racketeering.
