An Army captain, once featured on the CBS program "60 Minutes," has been relieved as commander of an Iowa recruiting unit. Sources say the firing came in the wake of an investigation into "x-rated e-mails" sent between John Hintz and a 57 year-old school superintendent.
CPT Hintz was featured with correspondent Lara Logan in a video report from Afghanistan a while back. The infantry officer, recipient of the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award, was wounded while fighting the Taliban. He holds the Army Commendation Medal with "V" for valor.
His alleged gal pal is 15 years his senior and is also married. Nancy Sebring, a big bucks school official, resigned her new job with the Omaha, Neb. school district after publicity in the local media about the steamy messages, which allegedly included a pix of the captain's penis.
WAS MILITARY E-MAIL USED TO SEND EROTIC MESSAGES?
Probers want to ascertain if the Army officer violated regulations by using his military e-mail to send sexy messages to Sebring. He claims he switched to a private e-mail account once he began communicating with his much-older female friend in a more intimate manner.
WHO-TV in Des Moines got wind of the erotic e-mail and filed an open records request. TV reporters found many of the e-mails to be "sexually explicit."
The hard-looking but well-built Sebring admitted "a lapse in judgment" and resigned both her old job as a school superintendent in Des Moines and a new similar position she had just accepted in Omaha.
