KISSOON DOWN FOR THE COUNT - MARINE LT COL

The ongoing investigation of drill instructors and supervising officers at the Marine boot camp at Parris Island, S. C. has claimed the highest-ranking military member yet. Lt. Col. Joshua Kissoon, commander of the trouble-plagued 3rd Recruit Battalion, has been fired and now faces court-martial.
The former enlisted man and career officer has been charged with failure to obey a lawful order, making a false official statement, and conduct unbecoming an officer. Whichever way the trial turns out, Kissoon's years with the Corps are now all but over.
We don't have all the facts in the case, but it seems Kissoon was derelict in making sure a bad D. I. (Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Felix) stayed suspended from a washing-machine incident that happened several months back. At that time, it is alleged the Iraq war veteran forced a Muslim recruit to climb into an industrial-sized washer in a Laundromat and turned it on.
WAS IT "SUICIDE" OR OTHERWISE?
Slappings, beatings and PT abuse was said to have been meted out to Muslim boots like Raheel Siddiqui, who died at the P.I. after "falling" over he railing of a balcony during hazing by his drill instructor. So far, the Marines are calling it a suicide.
What we do know is Siddiqui handed his drill instructor a note saying his throat was sore, he had a hard time swallowing, and he could not talk. The enraged D.I. then made him run back and forth in the squad bay, until apparently the young boot snapped and vaulted over the balcony to his death 40 feet below.
Political pressure is being felt at Parris Island from Congresswoman Debbie Dingell of Michigan who Siddiqui's grief-stricken family called into the case. The female lawmaker has made it known to Marine Corps brass that she wants the "suicide" cause of death changed to "undetermined."
