FACES UP TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON - $250K FINE
His name is "Bishop," but there's nothing Holy about this fake Army Guard chaplain. He's been indicted by a federal grand jury in Arizona, charged with faking his credentials to become an officer. Authorities say he allegedly awarded himself undeserved military decorations.
42 year-old Kurt A. Bishop of Queen Creek, AZ was an enlisted man and personnel specialist. So, he doctored his paperwork and proceeded to phony up awards for a Bronze Star for Valor, Purple Heart, and Ranger tab.
The 34-count indictment says Bishop's creative writing allowed him to snare a chaplain's commission. His bogus combat record apparently fooled the folks over at the Arizona National Guard into taking on Bishop at face value.
The fraudulent "Man if God" entered the chaplains corps in 2006 and was only exposed recently, when a suspicious superior officer double-checked Bishop's paperwork .
Since then, Bishop has been booted from the Arizona National Guard. If convicted on all counts, the "wannabee" could get up to 20 years in prison and a $250K FINE.
