CAPT LOFTON THORNTONIt doesn't get much worse than this - when a senior Navy chaplain is fired and nobody wants to give out anything but the barest of details as to why he was forced to walk the plank.

All kinds of speculation is stirred up, and it isn't fair to the now-disgraced four-striper for the military community to be whispering all sorts of theories as to why he's been disgraced in such a public way.  As far as we can tell, CAPT Thornton Lofton had a clean record up until now.

The only information officially given out is that Lt. Gen. Rex McMillian, commanding officer of Marine Force Reserve, pulled the trigger on the chaplain, telling Marine Corps TIMES he was fired "due to a loss of trust and confidence."

ENTERED NAVY IN 1993

Well, that could be interpreted several different ways.  The first thing troops think of when a chaplain gets his tail in a crack is it has to do with some sort of sexual shenanigins.  Check out our related stories box at the bottom of this piece and you will get our drift.

It's safe to say Chaplain Lofton won't be wearing a military uniform much longer, so if the captain is deep-sixed, why not get out the facts now, unless a court-martial is in the offing.

The Marines haven't handled this mess very well PR-wise, but there's still time to avoid any more embarrassment and tell us why a 25-year officer, seemingly well-regarded by all who have contacted us at MilitaryCorruption.com, finds himself in such a precarious predicament.

We welcome input from our readers who might be able to spread a little more light on what caused the chaplain to be relieved of duty.  Thank you.
