THREE-STRIPER AT NAVAL RECRUITING DISTRICT
© 2016 MilitaryCorruption.com
Getting assigned to a recruiting command has always been fraught with peril for those who want to survive career-wise until they reach at least 20 years of service. The latest officer to get fired and have his future put in doubt is CMDR Patrick Callan.
The Jamestown, New York native had been executive officer at Recruiting District Atlanta since December 2015. Now he's been forced to walk the plank due to what a Navy spokesperson called "substandard performance over an extended time."
CAPT William Cox, commander of Navy Recruiting Region East, is said to have pulled the trigger on the OCS grad "due to loss of confidence in CMDR Callan's ability to command." Not a good thing to have on your record when you've been in the Navy 17 years.
"NO MISCONDUCT INVOLVED," FLAK SAYS
But, the "good news" is, the Navy emphasizes Callan's relief has nothing to do with any personal misconduct. That might be enough to keep him in uniform until he gets in the minimum time for a retirement pension. For now, the three-striper has been reassigned to the Navy Operations Support Center Atlanta.
Prior to this, Callan had a fairly normal career. He was training officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, and did time in Iraq as electronic warfare officer for Regimental Combat Team 6, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Ramadi.
What has just happened to the Navy commander is an occupational hazard. Those who, for whatever reason, "don't make mission," find out there can be a steep price to pay for failure. We wish Callan the very best. While his chances of making captain are slim to none, he still can be of value as a Naval officer.
