Major Erik Burris, U.S. Army

MAJ ERIK BURRISIf a tree falls in the forest at midnight, who is there to hear it happen? That’s an unwritten axiom from the public affairs office handbook.

When the Army PAO at Fort Bragg released a terse statement to the media at the conclusion of MAJ Erik Burris’ recent court-martial that the former JAG prosecutor had been found guilty of rape ansentenced to 20 years in prison, they deliberately and deceitfully left out one very important fact.

The JAGs own female investigative officer – LTC Jessica Halling – not only found the major’s accuser – his estranged wife – was “untruthful” and “embellished” her charges, but recommended at the Article 32 (preliminary) hearing that the case NOT proceed to court-martial.

Here is a sample of what she wrote:

“My assessment is that Ms. Burris’ allegations . . . her statements to the CID . . . were driven by a combination of motives. The evidence in the case files and testimony suggests she embellished and made untruthful and/or inconsistent claims . . . her displayed emotion . . . didn’t appear genuine . . . I am left with no other alternative but that Ms. Burris is fabricating her allegations.”

However, the powers-that-be were so determined to destroy MAJ Burris, they inexplicably ignored the investigating officer’s findings and recommendation, and dropped the hammer on the former JAG supervisor’s head.

BURRIS MADE ENEMIES WITHIN THE JAG

This is worse than “don’t confuse me with the facts, my mind’s already made up.” We at MilitaryCorruption.com call it out for what it is – a crime in itself. The so-called guardians of justice went and denied justice to one of their own.

“The JAG leadership eats its own when they go off the reservation,” an informed source at Fort Bragg told one of our investigators. That certainly appears to be the case here.

Burris became a marked man when he testified at the court-martial of a JAG captain being bum-rushed into jail on bogus charges. Under oath, the major acknowledged the truth that even in cases where there was little or no proof, he was pressured to always take cases involving female sex charges to court-martial. Political-correctness run amuck.

What has happened to MAJ Burris reminds us of an ugly bit of history that shows the more things change, the more they stay the same.

MEMORIES OF THE CAPT DREYFUSS AFFAIR

In 1894, a young artillery officer, Captain Alfred Dreyfuss, was railroaded into prison by a corrupt and venal French Army Command.

He was convicted of “treason” based upon false statements and phony “documents” and sent to the infamous penal colony at Devil’s Island in French Guiana.

There was an uproar back home where famed French writer Emile Zola published an open letter – J’accuse – in a Paris newspaper and rallied the nation to demand justice in the Dreyfuss case.

Eventually, after the captain had served five years at Devil’s island, he was brought back to France and ultimately pardoned. He was reinstated into the French Army as a major, served honorably in World War I, and retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel.

If only the Burris case could end on a similar note.

AN “UNQUESTIONING” MAINSTREAM MEDIA

When the news first broke about the senior JAG’s conviction and draconian sentence, the “mainstream media” unquestioningly regurgitated just what the Army public affairs disinformation specialists wanted them to.

Remember the unwritten PAO handbook? The sin of omission is sometimes worse than that of commission.

We don’t have a man of the stature of Emile Zola on our staff, but we do have a track record over 16 years online of a string of victories won and crooked officers exposed. MCC hasn’t grown to the extent where we get up to six million hits, worldwide, a month, by being an ineffectual blog. We are a commercial website, here to stay, that fights for the truth and exposes the corrupt.

That is why someday MAJ Erik Burris will regain his freedom and salvage his military career. He has been the victim of a Dreyfuss-type injustice, and with your help, dear reader, and God’s, the former JAG prosecutor will win the final victory.

[EDITOR’S NOTE: — If you agree with us the Army has acted shamefully in this matter, and are willing to contact your members of Congress as well as local news media to voice your protest and views, please do so without delay. When MAJ Burris was dragged out of the courtroom in chains, the gendarmes grabbed up his Bible and took it away from him. Your prayers are also appreciated.]
