To those of us who wished we'd been fortunate enough to have gone to a service academy and gotten a free college education, it is almost incomprehensible. How spoiled punks can throw away everything just to get a "buzz" on the latest drug.
"Spice" is the new drug of choice at Annapolis. And there have also been incidents of student use at West Point and the Air Force Academy.
Eight midshipmen, including one plebe and the rest upperclassmen, have been kicked out so far this year for violating the Navy's ban on use of the substance. Sources tell MilitaryCorruption.com two more "middies" are under investigation and the number of those expelled could rise to an even ten.
This is not only an embarrassment to the USNA but a terrible waste of taxpayer's money.
USNA Superintendent ADM Michael Miller said, in a prepared statement,"Spice has a devastating affect on students who need to study and retain knowledge." He's absolutely right.
POOR JUDGMENT BY DRUGGIES
WE SAY "GOOD RIDDANCE TO THEM"
Those of us who earned our officer's commission on the battlefield, at OCS, or via ROTC, know how fortunate those eight idiots were who threw away their military career and future just to get "high" from Spice.
Probably it's just as well they are out. Poor judgment and decision-making as exhibited by them would indicate they might make sub-standard leaders if they lasted the four-year program.
They always run the risk of having to repay the cost of their education.
Only 18 states ban sale of Spice. Maryland is one where obtaining the stuff is easy and legal. Lawmakers there need to get on the ball and prohibit sale of this destructive designer drug. Now.
