THE SCOPE OF JUSTICE” WHICH BLOWS
THE LID OFF THIS ODIOUS VIOLATION
OF CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
VERPA (Veterans Equal Rights Protection Advocacy, Inc.) of Medford, Ore. – an all-volunteer, national grassroots movement of United States military veterans and families – announces its proposed legislation and language to abolish the hated “Feres Doctrine,” entitled: “The Military & Veterans Equal Rights Protection Act” aka “The VERPA Act,” has been approved by Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Spector’s chief counsel.
Sen. Spector, running for re-election in Pa., has been a strong supporter of military reform for many years. We at MilitaryCorruption.com “salute” him for his courage in spearheading this important legislation.
The founder and executive director of VERPA, Navy veteran Jeff Trueman, has written a superb soft cover book – BEYOND THE SCOPE OF JUSTICE – exposing this outdated and un-Constitutional law, which has caused much misery and grief to our military members over the past 54 years. We urge our readers to contact Jeff at (757) 338-0593/ Fax: (610) 834-7659. Or go to the VERPA web site at: www.verpa.us.
No, we don’t get a dime for this plug. But we do believe in this book and the man who wrote it. So please get a copy and spread the word to your friends. Thank you.
THIS INJUSTICE DATES BACK TO 1950
The judicially-created Feres Doctrine, which dates back to 1950, is an injustice, denying active-duty service members, veterans and their loved ones equal protection under the United States Constitution.
It prohibits military members, injured or harmed in the line of duty, from filing suit against the U.S. government for damages, no matter how justified and documented their claim.
Perhaps this inequity was best described by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in the case of United States v. Johnson, (1987):
“Feres was wrongly decided and heartily deserves the widespread, almost universal criticism it has received. Furthermore, Congress’s inaction regarding this doctrine and its doing little, if anything in the way of modifying it to prevent Constitutional claims, is clearly unjust and irrational. Allowing such power to military leaders can and does result in abuse. Therefore, where are the checks and balances on the military?”
“With the upcoming presidential election and possible military draft of young American men and women, aged 18-to-26, the time to abolish the Feres Doctrine is NOW!” Trueman told MilitaryCorruption.com. “Please contact your United States Senators and urge them to sponsor or co-sponsor the VERPA Act.”
(EDITOR’S NOTE: for further information on what you can do to help, contact Barbara Cragnotti, legislative coordinator for VERPA at (514) 773-8169 / Fax: (541) 772-9927. Thank you!)
