Why are we not surprised?
You could see this one coming from a mile away. Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl’s defense team is playing the “crazy card” in their campaign to keep the sad sack sergeant from being punished for his crimes.
LTC Franklin Rosenblatt led off the first day of Bergdahl’s Article 32 preliminary hearing at Fort Sam Houston, Tex., by declaring his client had suffered from “severe mental disease or defect” and therefore should be excused for leaving his unit in a combat zone.
BERGDAHL PLANNED TO DESERT
Lead prosecutor, MAJ Margaret Kurz, was having none of the “nut” defense argument.
“Under the cover of darkness, he (Bergdahl) snuck off the post,” the JAG declared, as she described the scene in Eastern Afghanistan back in 2009 when then-PFC Bergdahl slipped away from his unit and hooked up with the Taliban.
Kurz pointed out Bergdahl’s desertion was pre-planned. She cited he sent his laptop computer home and other personal items before he left his unit behind.
NEEDS TO BE MADE AN EXAMPLE OF
The stakes are very high for the entire U.S. Army.
Barack Hussein Obama, who staged a love fest with Bergdahl’s aged-hippie parents in the White House Rose Garden when he swapped their son for five Taliban killers, also sent his stooge Susan Rice out to tell TV reporters that Bowe had “served with honor and distinction.”
That BS crack enraged many of the troops who were already pissed off that a punk like Bergdahl was getting favorable treatment from the White House.
Obama would like to turn this fiasco into a political plus for him, but even the lapdog Pentagon and top generals knew they couldn’t have Bowe declared a POW (with all the benefits and extra financial rewards that brings). That would cause a virtual mutiny in the ranks as well as outrage the small segment of the U.S. media that don’t bow before Barry Soweto.
THROW THE BOOK AT HIM, WE SAY
The total penalty at court-martial for charges filed against SGT Bergdahl could put him behind bars for the rest of his life.
The most serious rap he has to avoid is conviction for “misbehavior before the enemy.” That could bring him life imprisonment. If he is only found guilty of the other charge, desertion, then he might get five years in the slammer, a bust in rank to private, and loss of all pay and allowances.
We combat vets here at MilitaryCorruption.com hope this dirt bag loses all five years back pay and does a stretch in Leavenworth. Let that be a lessen and deterrent to others who think they can go over to the enemy without facing the consequences.
