We remember back in the 1980’s when President Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of Labor Ray Donovan was in the headlines, accused of larceny, fraud and being linked to the Mafia. Several years and hundreds of thousands of dollars later, the disgusted New Jersey Democrat was acquitted of all charges.
“Where do I go to get back my reputation?” Donovan asked.
His case came to mind when our readers directed us to a recent story in the San Diego UNION-TRIBUNE. That military town newspaper dropped a big hammer on Marine Capt. James Hustek’s head last week. It was brutal .
“A commissioned officer at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is accused of terrorizing his wife, bedding mistresses across three states, and then trying to cover it all up by blackmail and threats,” went the story in the pages of the now-liberal-leaning U-T.
POISONING PUBLIC OPINION
The news item went on to allege Hustek beat his wife and placed a knife to her throat. Of course, there are no witnesses. Just “she said, he said.” In today’s politically-correct climate, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is re-inventing herself as the next Hillary Clinton, pressuring the Pentagon to find all accused servicemen “guilty” of sex crimes. Gillibrand wants to be President, no matter how many innocent people suffer “collateral damage.” Ho Chi Minh used to say, “You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”
The beleagured officer, free on $1000 personal recognizance, remains on active duty, He has retained one of the best military defense lawyers in the business, John Shelburne, to represent him.
Shelburne takes no prisoners and vows a vigorous defense of his client. The aggressive attorney is a JAG with the Marine Corps Reserve. We think Shelburne is just itching to interrogate the captain’s accuser on the witness stand.
Faithful readers of MilitaryCorruption.com know that when we urge you to keep your eyes peeled here for updates in this case, there is likley to be some very interesting twists and turns before the upcoming court-martial is over. There’s two sides to every story.
