Admittedly, it was a dumb thing to do, and very much against Navy regulations.  But former PO1 Kevin Saucier found that out the hard way and lost his military career.  Not only did he walk the plank, the 30 year-old sailor spent a year behind bars.

Now, the 30 year-old one-time submarine crewman has won a pardon from President Donald Trump.  The commander-in-chief’s spokesperson, Sarah Huckabee Saunders, told reporters in the White House Press Room that her boss “appreciates Mr. Saucier’s service to our country.”

The career sailor had a clean record until the unfortunate incident aboard the USS Alexandria.  Then bad judgement and a lot of stupidity took over when Saucier foolishly snapped PIX in the engine room area of the classified warship.

Of course, the swabbie was never a spy and no attempt was made to sell the forbidden images to a foreign power.  He had tossed the camera with film inside away and when a retired sailor found it and took it to a CPO, the chief contacted NCIS and the FBI.

A BIG “SNAFU” FINALLY COMES TO AN END

Admittedly, it didn’t look good.  You’d think a low-grade moron would know you never but never snap photos in a sub’s engine room.  But, it was ex-U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s careless and even criminal misuse of unsecured e-mail messages that spotlighted the double-standard under which Saucier had been tried.

In fact, aggressive JAG prosecutors had wanted to put the once-sailor away for at least six years.  Can you spell O-V-E-R K-I-L-L?  His  attorney can, and when a petition was filed for a Presidential pardon (see RSB below) there were those of us who felt Kris deserved fair and equal treatment.

Thanks to Donald Trump, Saucier now has it.  He can get on with the rest of his life without this mess impeding him.  Common sense has prevailed in this case.
