Admitted Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl says “I’m sorry” for those who unfortunately got killed and wounded looking for him after he went “over the hill” in Afghanistan.
The sad sack former PFC claims “It was never my intention for anyone to be hurt, and I never expected that to happen.” Maybe so, but his fellow soldiers didn’t expect to get the very accurate mortar attack they endured on their camp a couple days after Bergdahl went over to the Taliban.
Did he help the enemy? We may never know for sure, but Bowe’s tearful two-hour performance on the witness stand at his Fort Bragg sentencing hearing was a sight to see. The soldier who snarled last week that the Taliban had treated him better than the U.S. Army, had a different tale to tell.
MANY “ESCAPE ATTEMPTS” AND MUCH DERRING-DO
According to Bowe, he spent four of his five years in “captivity” locked up in a steel cage. Bergdahl made at least six “escape attempts,” or was it only five? He said he was gone one time for nine days before the Taliban caught up with him. Of course, they beat the hell out of him when they hauled him back.
What did he do for food? Why, he ate grass, don’t you know. As to water, that must have conveniently fallen out of the sky at regular intervals.. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Are you beginning to see the outline for Bowe’s book and TV movie folks? It could be a smash hit. Maybe Barack Hussein Obama – who traded off five Taliban killers for the dirt bag sergeant in 2014 – will write the introduction.
Who can ever forget the bizarre scene in the White House Rose Garden back in 2014 when Bergdahl’s aging hippie parents got the red carpet treatment? Daddy Bergdahl, with his Muslim beard and pony tail, even mumbled some Pashto words into the microphone while BAM beamed for the cameras. The only thing the father didn’t do was don a robe and sandals.
NOW IT’S THE PARENTS WHO ARE “MISSING”
Wonder why Bowe’s weird parents haven’t been seen anywhere around Fort Bragg the last few days? Before the unexplained rift with sonny boy, one would think the Idaho couple would be starring at news conferences and doing “The VIEW” on Television.
Stay tuned. We’ll have the sentence soon now. And it had better be stiff, as there may be other “Bowe Bergdahls” out there who would “walk away” from their unit in a combat zone. The punishment, whatever it is, has to be a strong deterrent. We don’t need this happening again and again.
