Once there was a time when the rank of “first sergeant” meant something. Apparently those days are over as far as one idiot colonel at the U.S. Air Force Academy is concerned.
“Chicken” Col. Julian Stephens has got to be one of the most nauseating PC practitioners of all time. The AFA’s vice commandant of cadets has castigated an honorable senior NCO, Zachery Parrish – First Sergeant of the Cadet Wing – for doing what any reasonable person and military member should applaud.
The USAF top-kick noticed a gradual deterioration of discipline when it comes to wearing of uniforms, haircuts etc. on the Colorado Springs campus. So he e-mailed the cadets and future Air Force officers that grooming standards needed to improve. Oh, my God! What a crime to say that! Ring the “political correctness” fire bell. Throw the first sergeant right under the bus.
HE ONLY SPOKE THE TRUTH
Here is what Parrish wrote. We also include the off-the-wall reaction by Stephens. Read them carefully and then get back to us with your opinion. Who is at fault here, and is the Air Force Academy going the way of West Point when it comes to degenerating into a social experiment instead of a institute of military education?
The first shirt started off by observing male and female cadets were failing to maintain a high standard of grooming. He pointed out a sports celebrity like NBA superstar Michael Jordan always appears in public in suit and tie, well-groomed and acting like a gentleman.
Then came the part that pissed off some of the whiners in the cadet community: “He (Jordan) would never be seen with a gaudy chain around his neck, pants below his waist line, or with a backwards baseball cap on his head.”
THE ” P.C.” COLONEL THROWS THE FIRST
SERGEANT UNDER THE BUS
That observation apparently struck a nerve, and complaints were quickly made to the AFA “leadership.” The cadets knew those empty suits would cave in to any of their race-based demands. Julian Stephens was just the one to undermine First Sergeant Parrish’s authority and the entire NCO Corps at the Academy.
The colonel dug into his P.C. handbook to come up with this: “The comments (made by Parrish) were disrespectful, derogatory and unprofessional and in no way reflective of the AFA’s views . . . MICRO-AGRESSIONS such as these, are often blind spots . . . biases not often recognized, and if they are recognized, they are not always addressed.”
Well Hap Arnold and Curtis LeMay, this is what your Air Force has become. Its a good thing Obama officer Stephens didn’t serve back in the old days, before undercutting the authority of a senior non-commissioned officer was decidedly not the thing to do.
