One of the most shameful by-products of this nation’s long involvement in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has been the large and growing number of military officers caught cheating the taxpayers and betraying their fellow Americans in uniform.

Not since the war in Vietnam have we seen so many cases of greed and bribery among Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps contract officers. In our RSB (related stories box) below, you can read about just a few of them. MilitaryCorruption.com has headlined many such instances, and will continue to shine a spotlight on such thieves and charlatans whenever their crooked ways are brought to our attention.

The latest one to go to the slammer is former Army LTC David C. Pfluger of Abilene, Tex.

ONLY A FRACTION OF THE CROOKED
CONTRACT OFFICERS ARE CAUGHT

He’s facing 18 months behind bars after being sentenced for accepting “payoffs” from Iraqi contractors and participating in a scheme to steal fuel oil from our military reserves in Iraq.

The 56 year-old fraudster admitted he pocketed cash, jewelry and expensive clothing in exchange for his dishonesty.

Now he’s just another crook who got caught. But sadly, only a small fraction of those who do engage in such conduct are prosecuted. That means many more contract officers succeed in cheating Uncle Sam and getting away with it. And as long as those odds remain in their favor, such people will still accept bribes under the table and ship home stacks of greenbacks.

A BOOK THE NAVY BRASS WON’T LIKE

One former contract officer who’s a certified “whistle blower” is about to get the last laugh and sweet revenge on the Navy senior officers who busted her for adultery, something THEY all have been guilty of at one time or other in their careers.

Penland has written a bombshell of a book telling in gut-wrenching manner of her incarceration in the Navy brig. She is the only female officer in the history of the U.S. Navy to have been imprisoned for such a “crime.”

But was the court-martial and fast trip to the lockup really an attempt to intimidate or shut up Penland? If they thought she’d be silenced, the fat cats and brass hats are badly mistaken.

This articulate writer doesn’t pull punches in “telling it like it is.” The chapter on the death by suicide of her close friend, Army Maj. Gloria Davis, is so riveting, well, you just have to keep turning the pages. Readers of this website (see related stories box below) will recall Penland took her concerns straight to the top and was ignored. Her OPEN LETTER to Adm. Mike Mullen, and his subsequent silence and refusal to help the honest contracting officer, may now come back to bite him on the ass, big time.

The old adage of “don’t get mad, get even” applies here. Penland may have been deprived of her military pension and freedom for a time, but soon she’ll have the top Navy brass lying awake at night wondering what she’s going to say in her book. This tough woman officer – and OCS graduate – isn’t about to let the “good old boys” off. Oprah Winfrey would be wise to contact Penland and do a sit-down interview with the attractive ex-officer on her new television network. It would be a ratings bonanza.
