PUBLIC RELATIONS DISASTER FOR MARINE CORPS

It doesn’t get much worse than this – at least from a public relations point of view.

The much-vaunted Marine Corps PR people have no way to put lipstick on this pig. A bird colonel with 35 years service has been tossed in the brig at Camp Lejeune after new sex charges against him convinced Gen. Walter Lee Miller to send the MP’s to grab up Col. Daniel H. Wilson without delay.

The Mason, Wash. native, who was G-3 Operations Officer for II Marine Expeditionary Force prior to this problem, had been hit last November with allegations he sexually abused a child. Some rumors had the youngster as young as six years old. What gender the “victim” is, we don’t know. But we have been told, Wilson was going through a bitter divorce battle with his spouse.

E-mail to MilitaryCorruption.com and other web sites has been mostly negative toward the 55 year-old career officer. Suggestions ranging from summary execution – “A bullet to the head” – to stringing the colonel up by a rope after castrating him, have been sent in by enraged readers.

AVOID A “RUSH TO JUDGMENT”

We cautioned in our earlier article (see related stories below) that Col. Wilson has the same rights as any other Marine – to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. But in the real world, things look very bad for the former commanding officer of the Weapons and Training Battalion at Military Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

He was charged in November 2016 with sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age, failure to obey a general order, and conduct unbecoming an officer. Still, at that time, he managed to avoid being sent to the brig. Wilson was reportedly receiving care at a North Carolina treatment facility.

The additional charges are: sexual assault consummated by battery, and absent without leave, said Wilson’s civilian attorney, Philip Stackhouse.

We don’t know for sure if the colonel is a pervert or he’s been falsely accused. But the longtime Marine’s Article 32 hearing is slated to begin January 31 at Lejeune, and our observers on the ground there are unanimous in this view – as sure as the Pope is Catholic, Wilson will face court-martial.
